This cost effective but yet dramatic home was realized in collaboration with a young family that wanted to stretch their budget without compromising design functionality. Located in a subdivision in the Southern Oregon hills, it was important to understand that on either side of the home in the future would have additional houses that would block the amazing view to the valley below. The solutions were to purposefully locate floor to ceiling windows on the front face of the house that would preference the downhill side, towards the main view.
The Plan is simple on ground floor cut the soil bank to include the main foyer, oversized two car garage and in home beauty salon space. Upon arriving to the second floor, through the use of window headers upset in to the attic space and clear span trusses the homes guest are amazed at the larger free span entertainment room. The Entertainment room includes the kitchen, great room, double sided gas fireplace, dinning/bar and also a small intimate outdoor patio.
The home is compact at 2000 sqf and places the living quarters at the back of the house towards the hillside so that the social public space can gather the uninterrupted views of the valley below. The exterior is made of large panel composite panted cement panels for optimum durability. This project is an important example how creativity can push the budget into still a very fun and exciting living environment.
