Madrona

Project Information:

Location: Rogue River, Oregon
Site Area: 12.3 acres
Building Area: 3,838 sf

Project Description:

Located in the thick forests of the Rogue River, Oregon mountains this minimalist modern home was meant to find inspiration from the most dominant of the wooded species, the madrone.  As the plan layout in accordance to the topography of the site, directly across from the great room sits a lush grove of madrones. Originally intended as glu-laminate diagonally framed window walls the contractor of record quickly value engineered the project into a more traditional look and feel with the use of rectangular windows.

The plan with a wave like entrance gathers it’s inspiration from the geometry of a baby grand piano that sits in the main foyer.  With steel beams, pan-deck hydronic concrete floors, this project is true to its industrial modern feeling. With wing like cantilevered roofs, this modern gem sits perched high in the mountain with plenty of overhang to protect its inhabitants.

This is a good example of why Design/Build is the preferred method of delivery, the owner selected a builder of their own and the original intent, budget and timeline all went awry.
